Challenge
The programme had stalled after the implementation approach became increasingly disconnected from customer requirements. Some needs that could be met with standard Maximo were being diverted into unnecessary custom development, mobile capability was inadequate, and client confidence had deteriorated.
Principal Consultant Contribution
Reassessed the programme and reorganised delivery into progressive increments: Work Management, Inventory integrated with SAP, HSE, followed by mobile capability.
Reduced unnecessary customisation where standard Maximo could satisfy requirements and directed an internal technical team to deliver a more appropriate mobile experience.
Restructured the client-facing delivery team to improve collaboration and introduced a two-week stabilisation period after each release with dedicated technical consultants.
Approach
- Reassessed customer requirements against standard Maximo functionality.
- Delivered Work Management first, followed by Inventory/SAP, HSE and mobility.
- Replaced unnecessary customisation with standard capability where appropriate.
- Introduced a refreshed client-facing team and clearer accountabilities.
- Used focused post-release stabilisation cycles before progressing.
Outcome
Restored delivery momentum and customer confidence, bringing the troubled programme to full acceptance within approximately eight months.
Business Value
- Recovered value from a stalled EAM investment.
- Reduced lifecycle complexity from unnecessary custom development.
- Improved client collaboration, production readiness and delivery predictability.
